The Orihuela Costa & District Branch has shown its fund raising skills by once again improving on its Poppy Appeal total.
We topped €20,535.91 in 2010, and €26420.90c in 2011 making it again the highest amount raised by any of the Branches in Spain.
So where does the money go? Initially it is all pooled at the District North offices, from where it is allocated to the support and welfare of veterans and their families living in Spain.
This can include vital medical equipment including hearing aids, wheelchairs,
glasses, mobility scooters and apparatus for the home.
All applications for help are income and savings related to ensure the most needy are helped first but the RBL will reply to any call for help within 3 days. The local branches are training more welfare case workers all the time, volunteers who generously give up their time to work with the many brave souls who gave so much for us.

POPPY APPEAL for District North  TOTAL FOR 2011 - ASTOUNDING
As 2011 had been such a difficult economic year, it was expected that the Poppy Appeal for the District North area would reflect this downturn. However, this was not the caseand the Poppy Appeal Co-ordinator Tony Dengate revealed that the District had raised a staggering 134,131.18€. This is an increase of 25% over last year.

Poppy People
Each year, in early November Legion volunteers take to the streets of  Orihuela Costa and District and all the other branches with poppies and collecting boxes, raising Thousands of pounds for the Poppy Appeal here in Spain.
The money collected at this time and from numerous other fundraising activities throughout the year, goes to providing help and support to serving and ex-Service men and women and their dependants.
